The Pioneers beat Colorado College 6-1 on Jan. 2 to mark their largest margin of victory of the season and earn the program's 1,500th win, becoming only the sixth NCAA team to reach that milestone. Denver originally scheduled to play the Tigers in a home-and-home series last weekend (Jan. 8-9), however the series was postponed.

DU is 129-150-16 all-time against North Dakota. The Pioneers lost 4-3 to the Fighting Hawks on Jan. 4 and beat North Dakota 3-2 (OT) on Jan. 8 in the NCHC Pod. Denver lost last season's series with a 0-3-1 record.
Last Meeting
Carter Savoie's power-play goal with 2:02 remaining in regulation broke 18:23 of a 2-2 tie to give the Pioneers their first win of the season, a 3-2 upset against then-No. 1 North Dakota.

- The Pioneers recorded their 1,500th program victory in their last game, a 6-1 win against Colorado College on Jan. 2. Only five other programs have reached 1,500 victories: Minnesota, Michigan, Boston College, Boston University & North Dakota. Denver's all-time record: 1,500-968-168
- Denver added 5'10," 178-pound forward Carter King from the Surrey Eagles (BCHL) on Jan. 8. King posted 18 goals and 15 assists in 58 games for the Surrey Eagles (BCHL) last season to rank second on the team in rookie scoring. He has yet to play a game this season as government restrictions have suspended play for the BCHL. He will wear No. 15
- Bobby Brink returns to the Pioneers after winning a gold medal with the U.S. at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship in Edmonton, Alberta. Brink had two goals, four assists and a +8 rating in seven games. Last year, he had one goal, one assist and a -1 rating in five games. Brink is the fifth Pioneer to win a gold medal with the U.S. at the WJC, joining Matt Carle ('04), Jason Zucker ('10), Matt Donovan ('10) and Troy Terry ('17)
- Carter Savoie was named NCAA and NCHC Rookie of the Month for December. Savoie led NCAA rookies with 11 points (7-4-11) through 10 games in December. His seven goals tied for the most among NCAA first-years and included four power-play goals as well as a game-winner against North Dakota on Dec. 8. The Edmonton Oilers prospect and St. Albert, Alberta native recorded at least one point in eight of ten games in the NCHC Pod, thrice scoring multiple points in a game
- Freshmen have accounted for 46% of Denver's goals and 41% of its points. Five of six freshmen have scored their first NCAA goals with Antti Tuomisto still waiting to light the lamp
- Denver has outshot its opponent in eight of 12 games this season with a +5.67 shot margin per games played to rank 10th in the NCAA
- The Pioneers had 10 alumni on 2020-21 NHL Opening Day rosters: Danton Heinen, Troy Terry (Anaheim Ducks), Ian Mitchell (Chicago Blackhawks), Trevor Moore (Los Angeles Kings), Will Butcher (New Jersey Devils), Scott Mayfield (New York Islanders), Jason Zucker (Pittsburgh Penguins), Dylan Gambrell (San Jose Sharks), Tyler Bozak (St. Louis Blues) and Paul Stastny (Winnipeg Jets). Logan O'Connor (Colorado Avalanche) and Dakota Mermis (Minnesota Wild) are traveling with their NHL teams as members of their taxi squads
- The Pioneers are wearing jersey patches with the letters "JB" honoring the late Joy Burns whose vast contributions to DU included becoming the first woman to chair the University of Denver Board of Trustees, which she did for 17 years, making direct contributions to the physical transformation of campus and helping the athletic department move to Division I
