Last Time Out
Denver fell 5-1 to No.3 North Dakota after defeating the Fighting Hawks 4-1 the previous night. The Pioneers fell behind 2-0 only 3:20 into Monday's game and were unable to come back despite outshooting North Dakota, 33-26. 

Series History
DU is 30-9-5 all-time against Omaha with a current 18-game unbeaten streak (15-0-3). The Pioneers went 0-0-2 against the Mavericks last season with a NCHC shootout win and NCHC 3-on-3 OT win. Denver was set to host Omaha in the first round of the NCHC playoffs last year before the season was canceled.

Denver will play Omaha on Sunday, Jan. 24. Puck drop is set for 5:07 p.m. MT.

  • Denver recorded its 1,500th program victory on Jan. 2, a 6-1 win against Colorado College. Only five other programs have reached 1,500 victories: Minnesota, Michigan, Boston College, Boston University & North Dakota. Denver's all-time record: 1,501-969-168
  • David Carle reached his 50th career win on Jan. 17, a 4-1 win against No. 3 North Dakota, in one fewer game than his predecessor, Jim Montgomery. Carle reached 50 wins with a 50-28-12 record. Montgomery reached 50 wins with a 50-33-8 mark
  • Lane Krenzen's younger brother, Nolan, is a freshman defenseman for Omaha. Lane & Nolan have played against each other only once before at Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (USHL) training camp
  • Denver has outshot its opponent in nine of 14 games this season with a +5.43 shot margin per games played to rank 9th in the NCAA. The Pioneers have limited their opposition to 24.8 shots per game to rank 4th in the NCAA
  • Freshmen have accounted for 43% of Denver's goals and 37% of its points. Five of six freshmen have scored their first NCAA goals with Antti Tuomisto still waiting to light the lamp
  • The Pioneers had 10 alumni on 2020-21 NHL Opening Day rosters: Danton Heinen, Troy Terry (Anaheim Ducks), Ian Mitchell (Chicago Blackhawks), Trevor Moore (Los Angeles Kings), Will Butcher (New Jersey Devils), Scott Mayfield (New York Islanders), Jason Zucker (Pittsburgh Penguins), Dylan Gambrell (San Jose Sharks), Tyler Bozak (St. Louis Blues) and Paul Stastny (Winnipeg Jets). Logan O'Connor (Colorado Avalanche) and Dakota Mermis (Minnesota Wild) are traveling with their NHL teams as members of their taxi squads
  • The Pioneers are wearing jersey patches with the letters "JB" honoring the late Joy Burns whose vast contributions to DU included becoming the first woman to chair the University of Denver Board of Trustees, which she did for 17 years, making direct contributions to the physical transformation of campus and helping the athletic department move to Division I
