No. 19 Denver Falls to No. 11 Omaha, 5-2

Omaha, Neb. – The No. 19 Denver Pioneers fell 5-2 to the No. 11 Omaha Mavericks on Sunday at Baxter Arena to split the weekend series.

Turning Point
Taylor Ward's second goal of the night complicated Denver's comeback bid. His shot off the faceoff made it 4-2 at 6:35 of the third period and gave the Mavericks their second two-goal lead of the game.

Quotable
"I thought we played well enough to win the game. We generated looks and generated chances, but unfortunately weren't able to put them in the back of the net" - Richard and Kitzia Goodman Head Coach David Carle

First Period
Denver was offensive, but Omaha was opportunistic. The Pioneers outshot the Mavericks, 14-8, but fell victim to a stretch pass late in the period. Jimmy Glynn received Kevin Conley's feed from the defensive zone at Denver's blue line and skated in alone to beat Corbin Kaczperski glove side to make it 1-0 at 17:19.

Second Period
Slava Demin's third goal of the season at 10:20 of the period tied the game, 1-1. Demin received a pass in the slot from Carter King, playing his first NCAA game, for the tying goal. The deadlock held for 4:19 before Tyler Weiss connected with Ward for a tap-in on the power play to give Omaha its second lead of the game.

Third Period
Omaha's power play scored again to open the third period with Kevin Conley's shot off a screen at 4:25. Less than two minutes later, Hank Crone brought Denver back to within a goal after collecting the rebound from Steven Jandric's shot. The Mavericks re-established their two-goal lead with Ward's goal off a faceoff and the advantage grew to three with Matt Miller's empty-netter in the final minute.
