Box Score DENVER – The Denver Pioneers women's volleyball team swept Omaha in its first match of the 2020-21 season on Sunday in Hamilton Gymnasium.
Turning Point
The Pioneers' run in the first set turned a 21-13 deficit into a 24-24 tie. After that point, Denver controlled play to seal the straight set victory.
First Set
The Pioneers batted from behind to win the first set. Denver trailed 21-13 before winning five of the next six points and eventually tying the set 25-25.
Erica Andrich and
Brianna Green combined for the set-winning block.
Second Set
Denver and Omaha flipped positions with the Pioneers jumping out to an 18-13 lead that was later cut to a two-point advantage at 23-21. Andrich, once again, had both hands on the final play with a block. 5-5 marked the only time in the set Denver didn't hold an advantage.
Third Set
The Pioneers and Mavericks traded scoring swings for the early part of the set. Denver trailed 14-12 before rallying to score the next three points and take a slight lead. Tied 16-16, the Pioneers continued to win the next six points and nine of the next 11 to mark their first victory of the season.

What's Next
After playing Omaha again on Monday, Feb. 1 (2 p.m. MT), Denver will continue its season on Feb. 14-15 at South Dakota State.
