DENVER – The University of Denver women's tennis program has named
Maureen Slattery its new assistant coach, head coach
Paul Wardlaw announced on Friday.
"I am so grateful to
Paul Wardlaw and the athletic department at DU for giving me the opportunity to continue my coaching career," Slattery said. "Denver is the place I realized that I wanted to be a coach so it truly is a dream come true to come back to my alma mater and continue helping this program reach its fullest potential. It feels great to be home!"
Slattery rejoined the Pioneers as an interim assistant coach in October of 2019 after spending her two prior seasons as an assistant coach at Christopher Newport in Virginia. She then became Denver's Director of Operations in the Spring of 2020.
"Maureen is the perfect fit for Denver women's tennis," Wardlaw said. "She's a DU alum, an All-American tennis player and an experienced assistant coach. Her love for DU and her passion for tennis make her the ideal candidate. More importantly, her people-centered approach to coaching meshes well with my program philosophy. Maureen's addition gives Denver women's tennis one of the most experienced coaching staffs in the country."
In four seasons as a student-athlete, Slattery was a three-time All-Summit League Selection, the 2014 ITA Mountain Region Rookie of the Year and the 2017 Summit League Player of the Year. In her senior campaign, Slattery advanced to the NCAA Division I Doubles Quarterfinals with partner Julia O'Loughlin. Slattery finished her senior season with a record of 53-14, including a 28-6 mark in doubles, mainly partnering up with O'Loughlin.
