DENVER – University of Denver men's soccer captain Liam Johnson has been named the TickerSmarter Summit League Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Johnson captained a Pioneers defense that earned a 2-1 road win at Virginia and drew 1-1 with Stanford on Saturday evening.
The Denver senior cleared a shot destined for the side netting away from danger with a diving header in the 88th minute on Monday night at Virginia, a match Denver eventually won 2-1 in extra time courtesy of Destan Norman's game-winner.
In 200 minutes of action this weekend, Johnson led a Denver defense that limited the two power-5 opponents to only five shots on target.
