Denver Opens Campaign Against Western Illinois Thursday

The Pioneers are 11-1 all-time against Western Illinois

What: First game of the delayed 2020 season
Where: Dian Wendt Sports Complex (Denver, Colo.)
When: Thursday, February 18 at 3 p.m. MT and Saturday, February 20 at 3 p.m. MT

Last Time Out:
Following the Pioneers' sixth Summit League Tournament title in the last seven years, Denver met Missouri State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, dropping the match 1-0 on a 72nd minute tally from Matthew Brentley.

DI Series History:
Denver is 11-1-0 all-time against Western Illinois with the only loss coming in a 4-3 defeat in their last meeting in October of 2019. Prior to that meeting, Denver had given up just two goals in the previous 11 meetings, including nine-straight shutouts.

What's Next:
Denver will continue a four-match homestand next weekend when the Pioneers host Oral Roberts March 4 and 6.

Other Notes:
-          Josh Drack and Preston Judd were both drafted by LA Galaxy, and turned professional in January.
-          In October, Denver was recognized for recording the top men's soccer grade point average in the country for the fourth time in the last five years.
-          This weekend will mark the first time the Pioneers have opened the season with a conference game in their Division I history.
-          Denver is playing its first match since November 21, 2019, making the wait 455 days between matches.
-          Head coach Jamie Franks is in his sixth season in charge of the Pioneers, posting a 67-23-13 record.
                        o   Denver is 102-40-21 since Franks arrival as an assistant prior to the 2012 season.
