Snap Shots
  • Due to combination of positive COVID-19 tests, contact tracing and subsequent quarantining of individuals, Denver travels to the Frozen Faceoff for their first game in 14 days with 16 skaters and three goalies. The Pioneers tested for nine consecutive days (March 3-11) prior to their practice day on March 12
  • Denver and North Dakota are set to meet for the seventh time this season, which comprises 29% of the Pioneers' 2020-21 schedule. Denver is 2-4-0 vs. the Fighting Hawks this season with a 3-2 win on Dec. 8 in the NCHC Pod and 4-1 win on Jan. 17 at Magness Arena
  • Skating as a forward for the first time in his collegiate career, defenseman Bo Hanson scored the game-winning goal in Denver's 5-4 win against Omaha in the NCHC Frozen Faceoff Quarterfinal on Saturday. The last time Hanson played forward prior to Saturday was as a bantam in 2011 for the Kent Valley Rainiers in Seattle. The goal marked his first as a Pioneer and first collegiate goal since Feb. 29 when he was playing for St. Lawrence
  • For the first time in history, the NCHC Frozen Faceoff is being played in a single-elimination format in Grand Forks, N.D. Denver enters the tournament as the fifth seed based on its point-per-game (1.409). Per NCHC policy, the conference uses points-per-game to determine the final order of the standings and seedings for the NCHC Tournament where teams do not complete all 24 games. Denver and Minnesota Duluth are the only two-time winners of the NCHC Frozen Faceoff with the Crimson & Gold winning in 2014 & 2018.
  • The Pioneers are 20-6-1 all-time in the Frozen Faceoff and 2-4 in the semifinal round. Denver has faced North Dakota only once in the Frozen Faceoff semifinal, falling 1-0 on March 17, 2017. The Pioneers are 3-1-1 all-time vs. the Fighting Hawks in the Frozen Faceoff
  • Who's Hot - Cole Guttman: Three-Game Point Streak (3-4-7). Kohen Olischefski: Three-Game Point Streak (1-3-4). Hank Crone: Three-Game Point Streak (1-3-4). Denver's PK: 94% (32/34) in the last seven games

UP NEXT: The winner of the semifinal will advance to the Frozen Faceoff championship to be played on Tuesday, March 16 vs. the winner of Minnesota Duluth/St. Cloud State.
