Box Score BROOKINGS, S.D. – The [-/30] University of Denver women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 result in extra time to South Dakota State on Sunday afternoon at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.
First Half:
Denver's first chance of the match came in the third minute.
Sami Feller took a shot from distance that dipped late, but was stopped by SDSU keeper Hailee Fischer.
Sydney Sharp was the first to the ball, smashing the rebound into the back of the net before correctly being judged a yard offside.
The Pioneers outshot South Dakota State 4-3 in the opening 45 minutes, with each team forcing the opposing goalkeeper to two saves in the first half. Denver took the only four corner kicks in the first half.
Second Half:
Denver found the breakthrough in the 66
th minute courtesy of Feller's fifth goal of the season and the 22
nd of her career. Centerback
Taylor Parker was the first to a South Dakota State clearance, immediately sending the ball right back into the danger area. Feller did a good job of getting herself back onside after the previous sequence, beating the offside trap and finding herself all alone with the keeper.
Feller struck the Parker long ball first time on the volley to put the Pioneers in-front. The assist for Parker was her second of the season and the third of her career.
South Dakota State took advantage of its first corner kick of the match to equalize 75 minutes in. The corner kick was partially cleared by Denver, but a strike from 25 yards out by Adalaide Kline leveled the match at 1-1 with a quarter-hour to go in regulation.
Extra Time:
Denver had the only two corner kicks and the only shot of the first period of extra time.
Natalie Beckman took the Pioneers' lone shot, but it was blocked at the top of the box.
The Pioneers continued to control the pace of play in the second period of extra time, but a 30-yard strike from Eden Brooker banked off the post and in to give South Dakota State the 2-1 win.

Feller moved up the record books with her opener:
- 55 career points – 15th in Denver's DI history
- 22 career goals – 12th in Denver's DI history
Sunday's loss snapped a nine-match unbeaten run for the Pioneers this season and a 21-match unbeaten run in Summit League regular season play.
