FARGO, N.D. – The University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving programs opened the 2021 Summit League Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships with four events of prelims on Thursday morning at the Hulbert Aquatic Center.
Women's:
Denver's women opened the first prelim session by qualifying four student-athletes into tonight's women's 500 free A-Final.
Sofia Nosack,
Angie Lindsay,
Izzy Smith and
Daniela Alfaro all qualified for tonight's final, led by Nosack's time of 5:00.87.
In the second women's race of the morning, Denver had six swimmers qualify for tonight's 100 fly final.
Ines Marin finished in 55.62 to take the top prelim spot.
Erika Remington,
Deniz Ozkan and
Emmy Francell qualified for tonight's A-Final.
Denver's women qualified four swimmers for the women's 200 IM.
Emily Vandenberg led the quartet with a 2:02.58 to take first and
Charlotte Simon was right behind her, taking second with a 2:04.85.
Brandi Vu and
Uma Knaven also qualified for the A-Final with times of 2:05.88 and 2:06.35, respectively.
The Pioneers will have six point getters in tonight's 50 free finals.
Aysia Leckie tied for first with a 23.29, Remington took third in 23.50,
Melissa Funes finished fourth in 23.89 and
Livi Schmid rounded out Denver's A-Final qualifiers with a fifth-place finish in 23.92.
Sophia Bricker and
Emmy Francell reached the B-Final.
Men's:
In the men's distance race of the morning,
Mads Rishøj and
Riley Babson finished 1-2 in the 500 free with times of 4:30.45 and 4:34.39.
Ethan Houck qualified for the B-Final with a time of 4:59.51.
Knox Williams led three Denver qualifiers in the A-Final for tonight's men's 100 fly. Williams clocked in at 49.33 to take first,
Zachary Bayler finished in 50.77 to finish fifth and
Kelby Modene was timed at 50.85 to take sixth.
Denver had two swimmers reach tonight's 200 IM A-Final and one reach the B-Final.
Ryan Catron took third with a 1:53.08,
Alexander Blom finished eighth in 1:54.59 and
Alex Lynch reached the wall in ninth with a 1:55.72.
Darragh Mahns took fourth in 20.72 in the men's 50 free and Williams qualified for the B-Final with a 21.41.
UP NEXT: Finals for these events, in addition to the 200 free relay and the 400 medley relay will begin tonight at 4:30 p.m. MT.
