NEW YORK – University of Denver women's lacrosse student-athletes
Bea Behrins,
Molly Little and
Amelia Cole earned player of the year awards from the BIG EAST, highlighting a group of 10 Pioneers to earn All-BIG EAST honors, the conference office announced on Wednesday.
Behrins was named the Attacker of the Year, Little was named the Defensive Player of the Year and Cole was named the Goalkeeper of the year in the BIG EAST Conference. The trio was joined on the All-BIG EAST First Team by
Eliza Radochonski,
Hannah Liddy and
Mackenzie Wallevand.
Sam Thacker,
Sammie Morton, Caroline Wiseman and
Kailey Conry were named to the BIG EAST Second Team.
Behrins finished the regular season as Denver's leading scorer, one of eight Pioneers to finish in double figures in the goals column this season. Through the first 14 games of 2021, Behrins has 56 points on 42 goals and 14 assists, including nine free-position tallies and four game-winning goals. Behrins ranks second in the BIG EAST and 33
rd in the country in goals with 42 and fourth in the conference and 51
st in the country in points with 56. She leads a balanced top-20 scoring offense in the country in free position goals per game and is first in the BIG EAST in free-position percentage at 60%. Behrins scored the OT game-winner at UConn on April 9
th, one of five goals on the afternoon for the senior. Earlier this season, Behrins became the 17
th player in program history to reach 100 career goals.
Little has captained the ninth-ranked scoring defense in the country and the top defense in the BIG EAST, finishing the regular season at fifth in the conference in caused turnovers per game (1.57), eighth in draw controls (3.36) and seventh in ground balls (2.29). In her 14 starts this season, Little has seven points on three goals and four assists, 32 ground balls, 22 caused turnovers and 47 draw controls. Earlier this season, Little became just the second player in program history to pick up 200 draw controls.
Cole is fifth in the country and first in the BIG EAST in goals against average, holding opponents to 8.05 goals per game. Coles is also second in the BIG EAST in save percentage at 46.1%. After missing the season opener, Cole has started in all 13 games, stopping 88 of the 191 shots on her goal in just shy of 800 minutes of action.
Radochonski is third on the team in points with 41 and second on the team in goals with 34 to go with 13 ground balls, three caused turnovers and 11 draw controls. The Englewood, Colo., native is fifth in the BIG EAST conference in goals per game at 2.43, ninth in points at 41 and third in shooting percentage at 50.7%. Earlier this season, Radochonski became the 16
th player in program history to reach 100 career goals.
Liddy leads the Pioneers in assists with 36 to go with 16 goals for 52 points, which is second to only Behrins for the Denver offense. The Westfield, N.J., native is first in the BIG EAST and ninth in the country in assists per game at 2.77, while sitting 59
th in the country and third in the conference in points per game at 4.0. Last weekend, Liddy became the fourth player in program history to reach 100 career assists. Liddy netted the OT winner to clinch the BIG EAST regular season title for the Pioneers on April 18 at Marquette.
Wallevand is sixth in points for the Pioneers out of Denver's midfield, tallying 22 on 19 goals and three assists in 14 games. Her 19 tallies are good for fourth in the Denver offense.
Thacker is second in the BIG EAST and 23
rd in the country in caused turnovers per game at 1.93, while ranking ninth in the BIG EAST in ground balls per game at 2.14. Morton is ninth in the BIG EAST in both caused turnovers per game (1.36) and ground balls per game (2.14).
Wiseman is seventh in points for the Pioneers on 18 goals and three assists. Her 18 tallies is good for fifth on the team. Conry is fourth on the team in points with 40 on 16 goals and 24 assists. The Needham, Mass., native is fourth in the BIG EAST and 44
th in the country in assists per game at 1.71 per game.
