Get to Know You: Drake Muller
Sophomore guard Drake Muller returns to the Pioneers for a second season in 2021-22.
 
Q&A with Muller
How has the transition been with the new staff? 
The transition has been good. It's easy to tell that Coach Wulbrun and his staff care for us and are trying to do something special here. 

What made you fall in love with the game of basketball?
Sports have always been a big part of my life. Growing up I played basketball, football and baseball and basketball was always my favorite.

When did you know you could play at the Division I level?
Playing Division I basketball was a goal of mine since I was in middle school. I always knew it was something I could do as long as I put in the time to work on my game.
 
What is your favorite basketball moment?
My favorite basketball moment growing up was when my high school team beat our rivals in their gym my sophomore year. I remember the gym was loud and packed with standing room only and right after the game I went up in the stands to hug my parents and grandparents. 

Have any of your family members played collegiate or professional sports and what team/position did they play?
My uncle played college baseball at Texas A&M. He played center field.
 
Growing up playing basketball, who had the most influence on the development of your game?
My dad had the most influence on my development as a basketball player. Basketball is his favorite sport so naturally, it became my favorite sport. He dropped me off at AAU practices, tournaments, camps, and he still comes to the gym to rebound for me when I'm home. He has played a big role in helping me become the player I am today.

Who was your favorite basketball player and team growing up and why?
I always had a couple players that I really liked growing up. I've always liked guys like Kevin Durant, Paul George, Steph Curry, and Dirk Nowitzki and admired the way they played the game. Growing up in Dallas my favorite team has always been the Mavericks. For as long as I can remember, I've been a Mavs fan.

Describe your style of play and how it affects the game?
I'm a player that can stretch the floor with my ability to knock down shots and I can defend at a high level. I always play hard, I'm willing to sacrifice my body and take charges and do whatever is asked of me to help my team win.

Favorite moment of getting to know your knew teammates at the University of Denver?
It's been really fun getting to know the new guys and getting to know the returners even more. Working hard with these guys every day and getting to know them in the process truly has been a pleasure. I can tell this is going to be a season to remember.

What does the a basketball family look like to you?
A basketball family is one that holds each other accountable on and off the floor. It's a group that pushes each other to be better and has fun doing it. I think we have a chance to build a really strong basketball family here at DU.
