Denver Signs Harry Bates Ahead of 2026-27 Season

Bergstraser makes his fifth addition of the offseason

DENVER – The University of Denver men's basketball program has signed former Temple College forward Harry Bates for the 2026-27 season, head coach Tim Bergstraser announced on Saturday.

Bates averaged 11.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game at Temple College last season, posting six double-doubles and scoring in double figures on 21 occasions. The Australian big man grabbed an average of 3.0 offensive rebounds per appearance.

This marks Bergstraser's fifth offseason signing, joining Oskar Wickström Stümer (April 17), Trey Cady (April 27), Baba Mbengue (May 7) and CJ Hyland (May 8).

2025-26 (REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE AT TEMPLE COLLEGE):

All-Conference First Team selection…Played in 31 games, making 30 starts for the Leopards…Averaged 11.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest, including 3.0 boards per game off the offensive glass…Scored in double figures in 21 games, including 20+ points on two occasions…Pulled down double digit rebounds in nine games…Record six double-doubles.

2024-25 (SOPHOMORE AT TEMPLE COLLEGE):
Missed the entire season due to injury.

2023-24 (FRESHMAN AT CENTRAL MAINE CC):
Played in 26 games, making 23 starts for the Mustangs…Averaged 8.3 points and 6.3 rebounds in his freshman season…Shot 54.8% from the field. 

BEFORE CENTRAL MAINE CC:
Sportsperson of the Year in his final year of high school…Member of the Port Macquarie Dolphins U/18 and U/20 squads before joining New South Wales U/20's. 

PERSONAL:
Chose the University of Denver because he felt wanted by the coaching staff and believed the University of Denver was the best fit for the rest of his athletic and student career…Wants to travel and see how far basketball can take him before getting into another job after basketball…Enjoys hanging by the beach, swimming and fishing.
