Junior guard James Sanders IV returns to the Pioneers for a third season in 2021-22.
 
Q&A with Sanders IV
How has the transition been with the new staff?
The transition has been great. Coach Wulbrun and his staff have come in with a sense of urgency and intent to change.

What made you fall in love with the game of basketball?
I fell in love with the basketball because it's more than just a game. I have created life long bonds with people, become mentally and physically tougher, developed a concrete work ethic, and become a better person through the game of basketball.

When did you know you could play at the Division I level?
It was a big dream of mine to play Division 1 basketball, so I knew from a young age I could do it if I stuck my mind to it.

What is your favorite basketball moment?
My favorite basketball moment was watching the playoffs with my family. There are so many good players and clutch moments in the NBA Playoffs. Nothing beats sitting on the couch watching a buzzer beater and cheering with my family.

Have any of your family members played collegiate or professional sports and what team/position did they play?
My mom played basketball at Otero Junior College.
 
Growing up playing basketball, who had the most influence on the development of your game?
My mom and dad had the most influence on the development of my game because they took the time to go with me to the gym and surrounded me with the culture of basketball that I fell in love with.

Who was your favorite basketball player and team growing up and why?
My favorite player to watch is LeBron James because of his athleticism and control of the game. My favorite team is the Nuggets because I am from Colorado.

Describe your style of play and how it affects the game?
I am a defender and spot-up shooter that affects the game with my energy and passion to win.

Favorite moment of getting to know your knew teammates at the University of Denver?
My favorite moment was going to Coach's house with my teammates because we ate good food, talked about why we love basketball, and had a good time together.

What does the a basketball family look like to you?
When I think of a basketball family I think of the saying "I am my brother's keeper". A basketball family are people who come together, fight together, and win together. Through trials and tribulations, a bond is formed that can't be broken.
