Denver Opens Non-Conference Home Weekend with Washington State

The Pioneers host the Cougars Thursday at 7 p.m. MT to start a two-match all Pac-12 non-conference weekend at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium

DENVER – The University of Denver women's soccer program will play their final two home matches of its non-conference schedule against a pair of Pac-12 opponents this weekend, opening that stretch with Washington State on Thursday night at 7 p.m. MT at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. The Pioneers will then host the 36th Colorado Derby when CU comes to town on Sunday at 1 p.m. MT.

Last Time Out:
After falling behind in the first half for the third-consecutive match, the Pioneers offense exploded for five goals in the second half to take a 6-2 victory over Northern Arizona on Saturday night in Phoenix, Ariz. Denver got goals from five different players and the first multi-goal match of the season went to freshman winger Riley Baker.
 
Denver vs. Northern Arizona Series History:
Denver is 1-1-1 all-time against Washington State, winning the last meeting in 2010 by a count of 3-1in Spokane. The Pioneers lost a 2004 neutral site game against Washington State 2-0 in 2004 and drew 2-2 with the Cougars in Logan, Utah, in Denver's first DI season of 1998.
 
Notable Stats:
  • Denver has scored 22 goals from 12 different players to start the 2021 season. Sydney Sharp leads the way with five goals, followed by three apiece from Riley Baker and Kaitlyn Glover. Natalie Beckman and Ella Frost round out the multi-goal scorers with two apiece.  
  • The Pioneers 12 different goal scorer's marks the most since 2013, when Denver had 13 different players find the back of the net. Denver's school record for different players to score in a season is 18 in the 2006 campaign.
  • Career Points Record Update: Feller has 75 career points, putting her seventh in Denver's DI record book. Beckman has 70 career points, moving her into a tie for ninth.  
  • Career Assists Record Update: Beckman has 34 career assists, two off Kristen Hamilton's 36 career assists and five assists off co-record holders Nicholette DiGiacomo and Jamie Norwood. Feller has 21 assists, good for ninth in Denver's DI record book.
  • Career Goals Record Update: Feller has 27 career goals, good for eighth in Denver's DI history.
  • For their performances last weekend, Natalie Beckman, Sami Feller and Sydney Sharp were named to the Grand Canyon All-Tournament Team.
