NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 5-ranked University of Denver women's gymnastics team posted a 196.625 at No. 3 Oklahoma (198.200) on Sunday, wrapping up Denver's three-meet road trip to finish the first month of the season.
SIGNIFICANT STATS
- Denver's freshmen played critical roles in DU's performance with Mia Hebinck stepping into the bars lineup at the last minute once again and with Momoko Iwai leading off the beam rotation.
- Graduate student Mia Sundstrom made her return to the beam lineup for the first time since a season-ending 2020 injury.
- Sophomore Jessica Hutchinson made her first appearance of the season on bars, scoring a 9.850.
- DU's vault tally of 49.275 became a new season high while the team's 49.325 on bars was its second highest score of the year.
BARS RECAP
Denver began the meet with a 49.325 on bars highlighted by Hebinck's 9.900 – an improvement of .075 over her debut last week – which tied her for third overall. All six of Denver's scores were at or above 9.800 including a 9.875 from graduate student
Emily Glynn. Hutchinson made her season bars debut with a 9.850, which sophomore
Rylie Mundell and graduate student
Lynnzee Brown also earned. Senior
Alexandria Ruiz led off the rotation with a 9.800.
VAULT RECAP
DU followed with a season's best 49.275 on vault, led by
Lynnzee Brown's near-perfect 9.975, which matched her career high. Mundell added a 9.825 while Hutchinson and Glynn both posted 9.850s, their top scores of the season so far. Ruiz and Sundstrom each had a 9.775 to complete the lineup.
FLOOR RECAP
Glynn's season-high 9.875 was Denver's top mark on floor in the third rotation. Iwai once again led off the lineup, scoring a 9.850 and just missing the score from her debut at West Virginia. Ruiz followed with a 9.825 for her top floor score of 2022. Sophomores
Bella Mabanta and
Abbie Thompson had DU's final counted scores after
Lynnzee Brown was unable to complete her routine.
BEAM RECAP
DU's beam team stepped up in the face of adversity, shifting the lineup and beginning with four scores of 9.800 or higher. Iwai hit just her second collegiate beam routine as the unexpected lead off, earning a 9.850. Ruiz followed with a 9.825 and Mabanta a 9.800. Thompson gave Denver a second 9.850 in the rotation while Mundell had the team's final counted score with a 9.725. Sundstrom completed the lineup, competing on the event for the first time in almost exactly two years.
