[9/6] Denver Heads to No. 7 Seed [4/4] Duke for NCAA Second Round

The Pioneers will make their fifth appearance in the second round on Sunday afternoon in Durham

LAST TIME OUT:
After a 0-0 90 minute match in a heavy snow storm, Kengo Ohira broke the deadlock in the 93rd minute to lift the Pioneers past San Diego in the NCAA First Round on Thursday at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.

QUICK HITS:
·        Duke has won both of the previous meetings. Denver has traveled to Durham for all three meetings.
·        Sunday's match-up features two of the top five scoring defenses in the country.
·        Denver hasn't lost since September 20 (10-0-3 since).
·        As a player, assistant and head coach Franks is 21-10-3 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, including 5-6-1 while at Denver and 5-5-0 as a head coach.
·        The Pioneers are 6-9-1 in the NCAA Division I Tournament in their history, including 1-3-0 in the NCAA Second Round (lost in extra time at Clemson last season).  
·        The winner of Sunday's second round match-up will take on the winner of No. 10 FIU and New Hampshire next weekend.
·        Ohira's game winner on Thursday was his third of the season and the 13th of his career. The game winner was the fifth in his four seasons with the Crimson and Gold, including his second game winner in the NCAA Tournament (2021 First Round at Grand Canyon).
·        The cleansheet on Thursday was Denver's 13th of the season and freshman goalkeeper Isaac Nehme's 10th solo shutout of his rookie campaign, the third most in a single season in Denver's DI history.
·        Graduate student Stefan DeLeone moved into a tie with Pioneer greats Sam Hamilton, Scott DeVoss and Andre Shinyashiki for career matches played on Thursday, appearing in his 83rd contest for the Crimson and Gold.
