PREVIEW: Men's Basketball Opens Season with Idaho

About Denver
• The Pioneers averaged 70.5 points per game last year.
• Denver allowed 74.4 points per game last season.
• DU shot 46.0 percent from the field in 2021-22.
• Denver is holding opponents to 44.6 percent shooting, fifth in the Summit League. 
• Denver has been solid at rim protection, ranking second in the Summit League in blocks per game at 3.45.
• The Crimson and Gold rank sixth in the Summit League at getting to the line, attempting 552 free throws on the season.
• DU ranks fifth in the Summit League in 3-point percentage at 36.9 percent in 2021-22 and 41st in all of the NCAA.
• The Pioneers rank fifth in the Summit League in 3-point defense, allowing just a 35.5 percent make rate.

• Idaho made 44.2 percent of its shots last season.
• The Vandals hit 37.2 percent of their 3s in 2021-22.
• UI made 8.0 3s per game last year. 
• Idaho averaged 11.9 assists per game last season.
• The Vandals pulled down 34.2 rebounds per game in 2021-22.
• Rashard Smith is the team's returning leading scorer with a 10.1 points per game average.

Preseason Recognition 
• Tevin Smith garnered some good news for his breakout year as a freshman last year.
• Smith was named to the Summit League Preseason All-League Second Team.

• The Pioneers have done well in home openers the past four seasons.
• DU has won its last four home openers dating back to 2018.

• Denver has been a tough team to beat when it dials up the defense. 
• The Pioneers have a 6-2 (.750) record under Wulbrun when allowing fewer than 70 points in a contest.

Not Just a Kid from Danville
• Smith has proven to be a impact player from the day he stepped on the court for the Pioneers.
• Smith is just one of five returning sophomores in the country to average at least 10.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 block as a freshman last year.
