Pioneers Start Spring Season with Spilt at Desert Match Play

Denver goes 1-1 in matches against Wyoming and Air Force

PALM DESERT, Calif. – The University of Denver men's golf team got its spring season going on Friday at the Wyoming Desert Match Play. The Pioneers went 1-1 on the day, falling in the quarterfinal before getting a win in the consolation semifinal.

Significant Stats:

- No. 4 seed Denver dropped its quarterfinal matchup to fifth-seeded Wyoming despite a 3-3 tie. The Cowboys won the tiebreaker by winning more total holes than the Pioneers.
- The Crimson and Gold took down No. 8 Air Force in the consolation semifinal with a commanding 5-0-1 record.  

Inside the Round for the Pioneers:
- Esteban Missura won both of his matches on the day.
- Jackson Solem dominated in his second match of the day, winning 8&7 in the afternoon.
- Jun Ho Won bounced back in his second match of the afternoon, defeating his Air Force counterpart,  5&3.
- Carson Griggs went 1-1 in two matches on the day, picking up a head-to-head victory against the Falcons, 5&4.
- John Sand won his first match against Wyoming 2&2 before tying in the afternoon against AF.
- Brady Arnett won both of his matches on Friday for the Crimson and Gold.
 
Up Next:
DU will take on No. 3 seed Colorado on in the fifth-place match. Tee off is set for 7:24 a.m. MT.
