No. 11 DU Gymnastics Finishes February Against Air Force

Denver hosts all-Colorado competition on Sunday in Magness Arena

LAST TIME OUT:
Denver placed fourth at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, on February 19 for its first podium meet of the year – the second being the 2022 Big 12 Gymnastics Championship that Denver will host on March 19. Sophomore Jessica Hutchinson led the way for DU, tying her career high of 9.950 on floor and capturing a third consecutive all-around title with her 39.600 performance.
EYE ON THE RANKINGS:
DU is ranked No. 11 in the season's first national rankings to be determined by National Qualifying Score (NQS). Denver initial NQS of 196.640 ranks among the top 10 in program history, as do the team's NQSs of 49.295 and 49.215 on bars and beam, respectively.
Denver owns top-10 rankings on vault, bars and beam, and is ranked in the top 20 on floor as well.
Graduate student Emily Glynn and sophomore Rylie Mundell are both tied for No. 12 in the country on bars with matching NQSs of 9.885.
QUICK HITS:
Air Force completed a three-meet road trip with a third-place finish in a UC Davis quad meet on February 20. Ayla McKean placed third in the all-around while teammate Genevieve Sabado tied for third on bars. Both McKean and Sabado are ranked just outside the top 25 nationally in the all-around.
Sunday will be the Falcons' second of two meets this weekend, following Air Force's competition against Sacramento State at home on Friday, February 25.
WHAT'S NEXT:
Denver travels back to the East Coast for its final regular-season road meet of the year, joining Cornell at Penn State on Saturday, March 5.
DU will wrap up its regular season slate with a Power-5 showdown at home on Sunday, March 13, against Oregon State, Arkansas and Nebraska.

- Hutchinson captured her second straight Big 12 Gymnast of the Week award after scoring the Big 12 Conference's highest all-around score (39.600) last week.
- Two Denver gymnasts matched personal bests during the Metroplex Challenge: Hutchinson on floor (9.950) and freshman Momoko Iwai on vault (9.775).
- Denver continues to shake up its lineups following injuries, seeing sophomore Rosie Casali make her season debut on vault while classmate Mundell and freshman Mia Hebinck returned to the floor and bars lineups, respectively.
- So far in 2022, 13 of DU's 14 student-athletes have competed in at least three meets.
- Graduate student Mia Sundstrom will join fellow graduate student Lynnzee Brown in missing the remainder of the 2022 season with an Achilles injury.
