DENVER – The [18/18] University of Denver men's lacrosse team got a sock trick from two-time First Team All-American
Jack Hannah to fuel a second half comeback that took the Pioneers past Towson 12-9 on Saturday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
Inside the Box Score:
Hannah shot 6-for-14 on the afternoon to fuel Denver's offense. Fellow Cincinnati guy
Johnny Marrocco had two goals and a helper for three points. Hannah's sock trick was the Pioneers first since before the pandemic when a junior Hannah scored six against Duke in February, 2020.
Junior
Alec Stathakis went 19-of-25 from the faceoff dot, picking up 10 ground balls in the win.
Denver's man-up continued its good start to the season, as the Pioneers converted on three-of-four opportunities.
First Quarter:
Towson got on the board first three minutes into the contest, which was cancelled out by
Michael Lampert's fifth of the season.
Towson got the next four tallies to round out the first quarter scoring and take a 5-1 lead into the second 15 minutes.
Tigers' goalie Evan Long had nine saves in the opening quarter to anchor the Towson defense.
Second Quarter:
Denver got the first two goals of the second quarter to get back in the game at 5-3.
Johnny Marrocco finished an
Alex Simmons feed behind his head with 12:15 to go before intermission and
Jack Hannah bounced one by the goalie to pull Denver back to within two with 9:01 to play in the second.
Long made another five saves in the quarter and Towson got a pair of goals in the final 2:10 to stretch its lead back to four at the break.
Third Quarter:
Denver scored four of the five goals in the third quarter to cut the Towson lead to one heading into the final 15 minutes.
Hannah got things started with his 18
th of the season with 13:32 to go in the quarter. Hannah's second of the frame made it 7-5 1:03 later.
Jack Thompson, who finished with 10 saves on the day, made a crucial save to keep the momentum with the Pioneers, eventually getting the ball to
Ty Badciong in the clear, who converted his first of the season in transition to bring Denver to within one with 10:11 to go in the quarter.
Marrocco finished the Pioneers 4-0 run to start the second half with his eighth of the campaign, creeping from the back side pipe, and Hannah found him for their eighth goal and eighth assist, respectively, on the season.
Towson scored with 2:10 to go to carry the 8-7 lead into the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
Hannah scored on the man-up to open the fourth quarter scoring, finishing a feed from
Ted Sullivan to even things up at 8-8.
Riley Curtis was knocked to his knees but scored just before the shot clock expired to give Denver its first lead of the afternoon at 9-8 with 9:22 to play.
Hannah completed Denver's 3-0 run to open the quarter, his 21
st of the season off a feed from
Richie Connell.
Towson got back to within one on the next possession, but Connell responded with a man-up tally and Hannah added another man-up goal a little more than two minutes later to close out the 12-9 victory.

- Jack Hannah's 92 goals brings him into a tie with Mike Law for ninth in Denver's Division I history (DI games only).
