No. 13 DU Gymnastics Travels to Penn State for Saturday Quad Meet

Denver joins No. 21 Southern Utah, Cornell for final regular-season road meet

WHAT: Final regular-season road meet of 2022

LAST TIME OUT:
Denver closed February with a 196.475-194.650 win over Air Force at home on February 27, sweeping the event titles. Sophomore Jessica Hutchinson won the all-around, beam and floor titles outright while sharing the bars title with fellow sophomore Rylie Mundell, who also won the vault title.
 
EYE ON THE RANKINGS:
DU improved its NQS by half a tenth up to 196.710, ranking the team No. 13 in the country this week. Denver also increased its bars, beam and floor NQSs with its new NQSs on bars and beam ranking in the top five all-time in Denver history.
 
Denver in ranked No. 10 on bars, No. 11 on beam, tied for No. 14 on vault and tied for No. 25 on floor.
 
Mundell is nationally ranked on bars for the second week in a row, coming in tied for No. 22 this week.
 
QUICK HITS:
  • Hutchinson captured her third straight Big 12 Gymnast of the Week award after posting the highest all-around score in the conference (39.550) for a fourth week in a row.
  • Five Denver gymnasts set or tied a career high during the team's floor rotation against Air Force including Hutchinson's 9.950 with one judge giving her a 10.0. Sophomore Bella Mabanta added another 9.900+ score with her personal-best 9.900.
  • Junior Callie Schlottman hit her beam routine immediately following a fall last weekend while also unexpectedly being substituted into the floor lineup where she made her collegiate debut and counted her score to DU's team total.
  • Freshman Momoko Iwai tied her vault and floor career highs against Air Force.
  • Nine Denver student-athletes collected Academic All-Big 12 Team honors, giving DU the highest percentage of the roster earning the honors in the Big 12 Conference this year.
SCOUTING THE NITTANY LIONS:
Penn State used a season-high 196.400 to beat Maryland at home on February 26. Lauren Bridgens led the Nittany Lions to a sweep of the event titles, winning in the all-around and on bars and beam. She shared the floor title with Bella Salcedo, who also won on vault.
 
Bridgens and Salcedo have PSU's top NQSs on vault and floor, respectively. Alissa Bonsall leads the team in bars NQS, and Maddie Johnston has the team's top beam NQS.
 
SCOUTING THE THUNDERBIRDS:
Southern Utah topped Boise State on February 25 with a 196.750. Hannah Nipp captured the win on floor, and Shylen Murakami won the beam title.
 
Murakami joins Denver's Mundell in tying for No. 22 in the country on bars. Three other SUU gymnasts have the Thunderbirds' top individual NQS: Caitlin Kho on vault, Hailey Vultaggio on beam and Karley McClain on floor.
 
SCOUTING THE BIG RED:
Cornell traveled to Yale for a quad meet on February 27 and placed fourth with a 191.625. Sydney Beers had the team's top individual performance, placing second in the all-around.
 
Beers has Cornell's top NQS on vault, beam and floor while teammate Kate Michelini has the team's top bars NQS.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
Denver wraps up its regular season slate with a Power-5 showdown at home on Sunday, March 13, against Oregon State, Arkansas and Nebraska.
