No. 15 DU Gymnastics Set for Saturday’s NCAA Regional Final

Denver advanced from NCAA Regional Second Round with second-place finish on Thursday

LAST TIME OUT:
Denver rebounded from a fourth-place standing after the first rotation to place second overall in Thursday's NCAA Regional Second Round, securing its place in Saturday's meet. The team used its best floor rotation of the year to advance over No. 17 Ohio State after the two teams were tied headed into the final rotation.
EYE ON THE RANKINGS:
DU increased its NQS once again, finishing with a 196.960 that is now the fifth best in program history and placed the team No. 15 in the country heading into NCAA Regionals. Denver jumped five spots in the beam rankings up to No. 7 with a final NQS of 49.395, which ranks third all-time in DU history.
Denver comes in at No. 12 on bars with the fourth highest NQS in school history (49.370). On vault, DU is No. 22 with a 49.180 NQS, which is ninth highest in program history.
Sophomore Rylie Mundell leads Denver in NQS in the all-around and on vault, bars and beam. Sophomore Bella Mabanta has the team's top floor NQS. Sophomore Jessica Hutchinson did not register enough away meets to earn an NQS in the all-around or on beam or floor.
QUICK HITS:
This is the third year of the current NCAA Regional format. The two lowest-ranked teams at each regional site compete in Wednesday's NCAA Regional First Round with the winner advancing to Friday's second-round meets. The top two finishing teams in each NCAA Regional Second Round competition advance to the NCAA Regional Final on Saturday where two team berths to the NCAA National Championships are on the line.
This is the first year that the NCAA has added a day off from competition on Friday for all teams.
SCOUTING THE GATORS:
Florida won the evening session of the Second Round on Thursday with a 198.125, the second highest score across all four NCAA Regional sites so far. Trinity Thomas helped lead the way with two perfect 10.0s and an all-round score of 39.875.
Thomas is the nation's top-ranked gymnast on floor and shares the No. 1 ranking on vault. She is also ranked in the top five on bars and beam, and joins teammates Wong, Nya Reed and Megan Skaggs in earning a combined 11 regular season All-American honors for Florida.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS:
Auburn finished second in the first session on Thursday, scoring a 197.500 with four events scores of at least 49.350. Sunisa Lee posted the session's top individual score with a near-perfect 9.975 on beam, which counted toward her 39.650 in the all-around.
Lee is ranked No. 2 in the country in the all-around and adds No. 1 rankings on bars and beam. Along with teammates Derrian Gobourne and Sophia Growth, Auburn gymnasts earned a total of six regular season All-American honors this season.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS:
Kentucky scored a program-record 197.750 to finish atop the standings in Thursday's first session. Raena Worley led the all-around standings heading into the evening session with her 39.700 performance.
Worley holds the No. 4 national ranking in the all-around and adds top-25 rankings on all four events including a tie for No. 9 on floor. In total, she earned three regular season All-American awards this season: in the all-around and on bars and floor.
