NEWTON, Kan. – The University of Denver men's golf team wrapped up the first day of its defense of the Summit League Championship on Sunday at Sand Creek Station Golf Course. The Pioneers opened with a hot start, posting a team score of 281 on the round.

Significant Stats:
- North Dakota State leads the field through one day of action at 12-under, 10 shots ahead of Oral Roberts and the Pioneers.
- Denver's 281 for the round was its third lowest total of the year.
- The Pioneers made the most out of the par 4 holes, shooting 11-under as a team, which was best in the 10-team field.
- On the individual leader board, the Bison's Nate Deziel set the tone, tying the third-lowest score ever in league championship history with a 65 (7-under).

Carson Griggs made a strong opening-round statement, shooting a 3-under 69 to put himself in the hunt tied for fourth, highlighted by an eagle on hole No. 16.

Jackson Solem used a dominant back-nine performance to jump into contention with a 3-under 69 for the day. Solem notched five birdies in the final eight holes.

John Sand got his final Summit League Championship off to the right start with a 1-under 71 for the round, putting him in a tie for 13th.

Esteban Missura was steady throughout the first round, shooting an even par 72 for the afternoon.

Jun Ho Won sits tied for 23rd at 1-over.
