Four Pioneers Named to IWLCA All-West/Midwest Region Teams

Bea Behrins, Kailee Lammers and Sam Thacker earn First-Team honors, Lauren Black named to Second Team

DENVER – Four University of Denver women's lacrosse players earned All-West/Midwest honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association on Thursday. Attacker Bea Behrins and defenders Kailee Lammers and Sam Thacker were named to the IWLCA's First Team, while attacker Lauren Black was named to the Second Team.

Behrins leads the Pioneers in all three scoring categories this season, recording career highs in goals (64), assists (21) and points (85). Nationally, the graduate student ranks tied for 10th in goals, tied for 18th in points and tied for ninth in shots (138).  The Basking Ridge, New Jersey, native has scored in all 19 games this season and has won the Big East Attacker of the Year Award in each of the past two campaigns.

Lammers, a senior, is first on Denver with 50 ground balls and ranks second on the squad in caused turnover (33) and third in draw controls (28). The Morrison, Colorado, native also has two goals and two assists on the year.

Thacker leads the nation in caused turnovers with 58 this season, as the Big East Defensive Player of the Year has forced three or more turnovers in 11-of-19 games. The junior from Lutherville, Maryland, ranks second on the team in both draw controls (42) and ground balls (38).

Black, the 2022 Big East Freshman of the Year, leads all rookies from the conference with 50 goals, which is the most by a freshman in the league since realignment in 2014. The New Westminster, British Columbia, native is second on the Pioneers in goals, assists (19) and points (69) and ranks fifth nationally among freshmen in tallies. She is one of two freshmen to be honored on an All-West/Midwest Team, joining Stanford attacker Ashly Humphrey (First Team).

Denver's four players on the All-Region Team are tied for the most among all schools in the West/Midwest region. They are now eligible to be named to the national IWLCA All-American Teams, which will be announced on May 26.

UP NEXT: The Pioneers begin the NCAA Tournament with a first-round matchup vs. Vermont on Thursday at 2 p.m. MT on the campus of Boston College.
