Kailee Lammers was named Defensive Player of the Week and attack
Lauren Black was named Freshman of the Week by the Big East Conference on Monday.
Lammers earned her second-straight and third overall top defensive player honor of the season from the Big East after totaling eight ground balls, four caused turnovers and two draw controls in DU's 1-1 week against Colorado and Marquette. She produced four ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control in each contest against Colorado on Wednesday and Marquette on Saturday. She also scored her second goal of the season on Wednesday vs. CU and added an assist on Saturday vs. Marquette.
The Morrison, Colorado, native leads Denver with 46 ground balls, ranks second on the squad with 33 caused turnovers and third with 22 draw controls. Lammers has two goals and an assist as well this season.
Black picked up her fourth Freshman of the Week honor of the season and her sixth such accolade from the conference this year. She began the week with three goals on four shots on Wednesday against CU before tying a career high with seven points (four goals, three assists) in Saturday's victory versus Marquette. She also forced a caused turnover in each outing.
The New Westminster, British Columbia, native is second on the team with 44 goals and 59 points on the campaign. Black has recorded at least a hat trick in eight games this season and has recorded multiple goals in 14-of-17 contests.
UP NEXT: The No. 12-ranked Pioneers open the postseason this week by hosting the Big East Conference Tournament at Peter Barton Stadium. DU will face No. 18 Connecticut on Thursday at 1 p.m. MT, with the winners of the semifinals facing off in the championship game on Saturday at 12 p.m. MT.
