DENVER – The World Lacrosse Women's Championship wrapped up over the weekend with University of Denver assistant coach
Brittany Read earning All-World honors with Team England.
Read and the English won the bronze medal on Saturday as they defeated Australia 8-7 in triple overtime in Towson, Maryland. Read, a goalkeeper, made 13 saves on 20 shots in the third-place game before Olivia Hompe scored the winner on a free position just 54 seconds into the third OT.
Hompe joined Read on the All-World Team, which featured four Americans, three Canadians and one Australian. The United States defeated Canada 11-8 in the championship game to become the first host country to win the gold medal on home soil.
Read started seven-of-eight games for England, finishing with 44.1 save percentage and an 8.74 goals-against average. She also made double-digit saves by stopping 11 shots in a loss to Canada on July 3.
The Pioneers had another representative at the World Championship as 2022 freshman
Raegan Wilson was on Team Canada.
Fellow freshman
Lauren Black is also participating in international play, as she is representing Canada at The World Games in Birmingham, Alabama. Competition begins on July 12 and runs through July 16.
