12 DU Gymnasts Earn WCGA Scholastic All-America Status

Denver finishes No. 13 nationally for team GPA, leads Big 12 Conference for third straight year

DENVER – Twelve student-athletes on the University of Denver gymnastics team collected Scholastic All-America Awards, the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association announced on Wednesday.

As a team, Denver posted a 3.7079 GPA, placing it No. 13 in the country and matching the team's final national ranking for the 2022 season.

Denver's 2022 WCGA Scholastic All-America Award winners are:

Junior Emma Brown (communication studies and psychology double major)
Graduate student Lynnzee Brown (communication management master's)
Junior Victoria Fitts (biochemistry and chemistry double major)
Graduate student Emily Glynn (organizational leadership master's)
Freshman Mia Hebinck (biological sciences major)
Sophomore Jessica Hutchinson (physiology in health & diseases major)
Freshman Momoko Iwai (undeclared major)
Sophomore Rylie Mundell (physics major)
Senior Alexandria Ruiz (biological sciences major)
Junior Callie Schlottman (biological sciences major)
Graduate student Mia Sundstrom (public policy master's)
Sophomore Abbie Thompson (marketing major)

Sundstrom finishes her career with Scholastic All-America awards in each of her five seasons. Ruiz has done so in all four of her years thus far (and will return for a fifth season in 2023). Five DU gymnasts have now earned three career honors: Emma Brown, Lynnzee Brown, Fitts, Glynn and Schlottman. Hutchinson, Mundell and Thompson are two-time honorees while Hebinck and Iwai collected their first awards.

DU's team GPA of 3.7079 ranks fourth in program history, and nearly 86 percent of the team's roster picked up Scholastic All-America status, which is the third highest percentage in school history.

For the third year in a row, Denver led the Big 12 Conference in team GPA. West Virginia was second (3.6394), Oklahoma was third (3.5354), and Iowa State was fourth (3.0290).

To be eligible for WCGA Scholastic All-America Awards, student-athletes must achieve a GPA of 3.500 or higher for the 2021-22 academic year or cumulative for their collegiate career.

Denver will return nine of its 2022 WCGA Scholastic All-Americans to the 2023 roster including graduate students Lynnzee Brown (medical redshirt) and Ruiz (COVID-19 year).
