Denver got second-half goals from Aidan O'Toole and Ian Smith to defeat Gonzaga 3-1 in the season opener on Thursday night at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. The Pioneers outshot Gonzaga 15-10, including 7-1 on goal. FULL RECAP
 
QUICK HITS:
·         Last season's meeting between the two programs in the NCAA First Round is the only meeting between the two programs in their history. Kengo Ohira netted the winner in the 24^th minute, a goal assisted by Aidan O'Toole.
·         O'Toole had a career-high four points in the season-opening win on Thursday (goal and two assists).
·         Sunday's match is the first of eight non-conference Denver opponents, and nine opponents overall, that finished the last season in the RPI Top-100.
·         Denver has student-athletes from 12 different states and four other countries. The 12 states represented is Denver's most on a single roster in its Division I history.

Up Next: The Pioneers will continue their five-match road swing next Friday (Sept. 2) when Denver heads to No. 20 Maryland for a 5:30 p.m. MT kickoff. Following that match, Denver will stay on the road to take on No. 2 Georgetown on Monday (Sept. 5) at 11 a.m. MT.
