Pioneers Head to North Dakota State Thursday

Denver looking for first 4-1 start to Summit League play since joining the league in 2013-14

DENVER  – The University of Denver women's basketball program will pack its bags for its second Summit League road trip when the Pioneers look for their first 4-1 start in Summit League play and head to North Dakota State Thursday at 6 p.m. MT.

SERIES HISTORY:
Denver holds a 12-10 edge in the series, but the Bison hold a 7-4 advantage in Fargo. The Pioneers and Bison have split the last 10 meetings. Denver won 62-48 in Hamilton Gymnasium a year ago, nearly a month after falling by six in Fargo.
 
LAST TIME OUT – Denver 70, Western Illinois 58
Denver raced out to a 19-4 start and out-rebounded Western Illinois 54-31 en-route to a 70-58 victory on the program's second annual Pride Day Saturday inside Hamilton Gymnasium. Denver improved to 3-1 in Summit League play for the first time since the 2018-19 league campaign.
 
The Pioneers had three players score in double figures, led by Emma Smith, who put together a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Ally Haar tacked on 18 points and Mikayla Brandon added a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
 
NOTES:
  • Freshman Emma Smith leads the Pioneers in scoring, averaging 13.7 points per game.
  • Senior Makayla Minett is nearly averaging a double-double, checking in at 9.1 points and 10.1 rebounds per game entering play on Thursday.
    • Minett entered the New Year as one of four players in the country to be averaging a double-double with at least 30 blocks.
    • Minett is 12th in the country in blocks (35) and blocks per game (2.33).
  • The Pioneers have made 130 three-pointers this season.
    • Denver ranks 14th in the country in three-point attempts per game (26.9) and 17th in the country in three-point makes per game (8.9).
  • Smith and Mikayla Brandon both recorded double-doubles in Denver's win against Western Illinois. The Pioneers have had two double-doubles in the same game twice this season (at Idaho 12/15).
