Carter King is set to play his third full season with the University of Denver hockey team and will serve as one of the squad's alternate captains in 2023-24.

After playing three games and recording one assist during the COVID-shortened campaign in 2020-21, King has steady increased his point total each year. Last season, King recorded career highs with 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points and led the team with 337 faceoff victories and a .526 faceoff-winning percentage.

The Calgary, Alberta, native, has racked up many awards for his performance on the ice and in the classroom in his time at Denver. A member of the Pioneers' 2022 national championship team, the junior been named to NCHC Academic All-Conference Team (2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23) and an NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete three times and was twice named an AHCA All-American Scholar (2020-21, 2021-22). He was also the winner of the Denver hockey team's Murray Armstrong Most Improved Player Award (2021-22), Dr. Ken Bredesen Most Sportsmanlike Player Award (2021-22) and Dr. Art Mason Top Scholar-Athlete (2022-23).

Prior to joining the Pioneers, he skated for the Surrey Eagles of the British Columbia Hockey League in 2019-20.

"I learned to skate and play hockey from my older brother and my dad out on a frozen lake."

"To win the National Championship."

What are some of your favorite activities to do when you're not at the rink?

"I enjoy hitting the links and golfing, as well as cooking and watching football."

What are your plans for the future and after college?

"To explore opportunities in either hockey or continue my education in biology."

If you weren't playing hockey, what sport would you play?

"I would be golfing because I've been golfing for just as long as I've been playing hockey."
