DENVER – The University of Denver gymnastics team is ranked No. 10 in the 2024 preseason coaches' poll, which was released by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association on Friday.
Denver has now been ranked inside the top 10 in the preseason poll in four of the last five years and five of the last seven. DU's No. 10 ranking for 2024 matches the fourth-highest preseason ranking in program history.
Two-time reigning NCAA National Champion Oklahoma topped the poll while Florida, LSU and Utah round out the top four.
Denver is the second-highest ranked team in the Big 12 Conference, behind only No. 1 Oklahoma. Big 12 newcomer BYU sits third in the conference at No. 31, and West Virginia comes in at No. 34. Iowa State does not appear in the poll but received votes.
Eleven of Denver's opponents for the 2024 season appear in the top 36 including No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 5 UCLA, No. 19 Arizona State and No. 20 Stanford, all of which will compete in Denver's Magness Arena in January. Among DU's road meets for the year are top-15 competitions at No. 6 Michigan and No. 12 Missouri.
DU finished the 2023 season ranked No. 8 following its sixth team appearance at the NCAA National Championships and after winning its second NCAA Regional Championship, upsetting then-No. 3 Michigan, No. 6 LSU and No. 11 Oregon State in the NCAA Regional Final. Denver's No. 8 final ranking was its second-highest in program history for a completed season.
Denver returns 11 student-athletes from its 2023 roster including three WCGA All-Americans – seniors
Jessica Hutchinson and
Rosie Casali, and sophomore
Kiley Rorich – as well as 2023 Big 12 vault champion, senior
Rylie Mundell.
Fans can get their first look at the No. 10-ranked Denver team during the annual Crimson & Gold Intrasquad, set for Wednesday, December 20, at 7 p.m. in Magness Arena. Admission is free.
