DU Heads to Alaska for UAA Invite and RMISA Championships

Pioneers set for six days of races in the Anchorage area
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The University of Denver ski team is in Alaska this week for six days of races, taking part in both the Alaska Anchorage Invitational and the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Championships.
Events in the greater Anchorage area begin on Monday with Nordic freestyle sprints of the UAA Invite at Kincaid Park and continues on Tuesday with the men's and women's 10-kilometer classic interval races. The alpine portion of the Anchorage meet gets underway on Tuesday as well with alpine giant slalom at Alyeska Resort in nearby Girdwood.
The RMISA Championships, which is hosted this year by the UAA Seawolves and also doubles as NCAA West Regionals, begin on Wednesday with GS races at Alyeska before the conclusion of the Alaska Anchorage Invite on Thursday with slalom. Slalom for the RMISA Championships is Friday, which is also the start of the Nordic portion of the meet at Government Peak Recreation Area in nearby Palmer, Alaska. The women's 5K and men's 10K freestyle interval start is Friday before the week's races conclude on Saturday with a mass start 20K classical.
Denver finished second at last year's RMISA Championships in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, with Andreas Kirkeng (men's 10K classic) and Tobias Kogler (men's giant slalom) earning individual conference titles. This will be the first full alpine and Nordic meet in Alaska since the schools visited in February 2019 for the UAA Invitational and RMISA Championships.
The Pioneers last raced Feb. 9-12, with them concluding the Colorado Invitational and holding their own DU Invite. Denver placed third in the CU Invite and second in its own meet.
