DU Gymnastics’ Hutchinson Named Regular-Season All-American

Denver junior earns WCGA Regular Season All-America recognition in the all-around

DENVER – University of Denver gymnast Jessica Hutchinson earned regular-season All-American honors for the 2023 season, the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association announced on Thursday.

Hutchinson was named an All-American in the all-around, landing second-team honors.

The Denver junior finished the regular season ranked No. 16 in the country in the all-around with a final NQS of 39.575, which is now tied for the sixth-highest in program history.

Twice, she matched her career high of 39.625 during the 2023 season including at the Big 12 Gymnastics Championship where she finished second overall. She was also named the Big 12 Gymnast of the Year for the second straight season.

Hutchinson also set or tied career highs in all four events, scoring perfect 10.0s on beam and floor to become just the fourth Denver gymnast to earn a perfect score on multiple events during her career. She narrowly missed All-American status on both of those events, coming up .010 shy in NQS on both beam and floor – though she finished the season ranked inside the top 25 on each.

Fellow junior Rylie Mundell also barely missed All-American honors – by the smallest possible margin (.005) on vault and by .010 on bars.

Regular-season All-America honors are awarded based on final NQS rankings. Student-athletes who are ranked Nos. 1-8 (including ties) earn first-team status while those ranked Nos. 9-16 (including ties) earn second-team status.

This is the first All-American award of Hutchinson's career and the first for any Denver gymnast since 2021 (Lynnzee Brown and Alexis Vasquez). She is the eighth DU gymnast to earn at least one regular-season All-American honor in her career and brings Denver's combined regular-season All-American awards to 42.

Hutchinson will help lead Denver when it hosts the 2023 NCAA Regional Gymnastics Championships on March 30 – April 2, 2023, in Magness Arena. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased online or by calling 303-871-4625.
