Lynnzee Brown Qualifies for 2023 Gymnastics World Championships

Denver alumna scored 48.100 in elite debut at Pan American Championships

MEDELLIN, Colombia – University of Denver gymnast and alumna Lynnzee Brown has qualified for the 2023 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships after making her elite gymnastics debut at the 2023 Pan American Championships on Saturday while representing Haiti.

Brown will compete at 2023 Worlds in Antwerp, Belgium, on September 30 – October 8, 2023. There, she will have the opportunity to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games.

The Denver alumna began her Pan American Championships appearance in Subdivision 1 on beam, scoring an 11.767. Among the adjustments she made to her collegiate routine, she added a back handspring layout stepout flight series, a side somi and a modified leap series with a switch leap to sissonne.

She closed out the second rotation on floor with a modified version of her 2019 NCAA national title-winning routine. For the first time since her second Achilles injury in January 2022, she competed a three-pass routine. She opened with her signature double layout but bounced a tad out of bounds before closing with a double tuck to score an 11.633.

Following a bye in the third rotation, Brown moved to vault, earning a big 13.067 after nearly sticking her Yurchenko 1.5 and celebrating with the crowd as she would in a college meet. Her score was the single highest mark in Subdivision 1 on any apparatus.
She ended her day on bars, competing with the same routine she used while at Denver with a Maloney to Pak salto to Van Leeuwen and capped with a small hop on the double layout. She matched her floor score with a 11.633.

Her all-around score of 48.100 ranked 17th overall following the completion of all four subdivisions on Saturday. After removing all athletes who are from countries that have advanced to the 2023 World Championships from the standings, Brown had the sixth-highest all-around score, earning her one of 11 available individual qualification spots.

The Raytown, Missouri, native concluded her six-year career at the University of Denver with a program-record fourth-place finish in the all-around at the 2023 NCAA National Championships. She leaves DU as one of the most decorated gymnasts in program history, winning an NCAA national title on floor in 2019 and four Big 12 Conference championships including in the all-around in 2021. In total, she accumulated 20 WCGA All-American honors during her collegiate career and set Denver records for all-around score (39.825) and most career perfect 10.0s (five).
