DENVER – The University of Denver triathlon team's spring season might have been in March at the 2023 Clermont Challenge in Florida, but the Pioneers have still been busy competing in various races over the past several months.
Incoming freshman
Maira Carreau has been among the top finishers in each of her four races, including winning the World Triathlon Championship Series Grand Prix in Montreal last Saturday in 1:00:13. The Canadian also recorded a trio of top-20 results in Americas Triathlon Cup races: sixth in Sarasota, Florida, on March 11; 14th in St. Peters, Missouri, on April 15; and 18th in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, on May 13.
Rising junior
Clara Normand also raced in the Grand Prix race in her home province last weekend and placed sixth in 1:01:41.
Normand joined Carreau and junior
Olivia Ebenstein and incoming freshman
Alex Campbell also recorded top-30 finishes in both Americas Cup races in Sarasota and St. Peters. Sophomore
Coco Diemar raced in both meets as well and came in 27th in Sarasota.
Junior
Avarie Faulkner braved snowy, freezing conditions at the Barkin' Dog Duathlon on April 22 at Cherry Creek State Park and was the first female across the finish line and came in third overall. She completed the 5K run, 34K bike and 5K run in 2:00:16, nearly 23 minutes faster than the next women's finisher.
Several Pioneers will be taking part in three more Americas Cup races this summer, with them competing in Montreal on July 8, Long Beach on July 15 and Edmonton on August 26.
