LAS VEGAS – Two University of Denver men's tennis players will play in the singles semifinals at the 2024 ITA Mountain Regional Championship, hosted by UNLV.
Senior
Daniel Sancho Arbizu and junior
Raffaello Papajcik each won their quarterfinal matches – both against opponents from New Mexico – on Sunday afternoon.
No. 1 seed Sancho Arbizu defeated No. 7 seed Georgia Samaha in straight sets and after losing just four games. His 6-1 win in the second set was his fifth time winning a set with two or fewer games lost in the tournament so far.
No. 10 seed Papajcik took down No. 8 seed Aram Noroozian in three sets to book his spot in the semifinals. The players split results in the first two sets before Papajcik easily claimed the third, 6-1.
Should either Sancho Arbizu or Papajcik win in the semifinals, they will automatically clinch a berth in the NCAA National Championships singles draw. The two singles finalists at each of the ITA Regional Championships receive an automatic berth into the tournament.
Play continues at the 2024 ITA Mountain Regional Championships on Monday with the semifinals in both singles and doubles.
