FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The University of Denver men's basketball program led with under 10 minutes to play, but fell to Colorado State 74-65 on Tuesday night inside Moby Arena.
The Pioneers (1-2) had three players score in double figures, led by Isaiah Addo-Ankrah, who had 16 points. Isaiah Carr added 13 points and six rebounds and DeAndre Craig helped out with 11 points, four assists and two steals.
Carr pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead the Denver offense which grabbed 14 boards and turned them into 16 second chance points.
NOTES:
- Denver had five different players with at least seven points on Tuesday night.
- The Pioneers outrebounded Colorado State 36-34.
- Isaiah Addo-Ankrah finished with team-high 16 points
- Addo-Ankrah finished in double figures for the first time this season and the 17th time in his career.
- Isaiah Carr finished with 13 points and 6 rebounds.
- Carr finished in double figures for the for the second-straight game and the seventh time in his career.
- DeAndre Craig finished with 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
- Denver led with 13:07 to play in regulation last year and with 9:24 to play in regulation this season in Moby Arena, both 10-point losses or less.
- Head coach Jeff Wulbrun announced on Tuesday evening that Tymo Sternicki is returning to Poland due to personal reasons and that Loch Cunningham and Keean Lloyd will be redshirting during the 2024-25 season FULL RELEASE.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After falling behind 36-26, Denver went on an 8-0 run with 1:33 left in the first half to narrow its deficit to 36-34, a score that would hold until halftime. Craig appeared to tie the game at the end of the first half, but a game-clock malfunction negated the basket as time would have expired.
Denver started the second half on a 5-0 run to make it a 13-0 run overall to take a three-point lead. Colorado State went on a 10-0 run to widen its lead after intermission, constructing a 65-53 advantage before Denver went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Josh Lee's layup, to shrink the deficit to 65-59 with 5:09 to go in the contest. Colorado State responded and outscored the Pioneers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 74-65. Denver made the most of six offensive rebounds to tack on seven second chance points out of 31 total in the period.
