DENVER – The University of Denver men's soccer program had eight student-athletes recognized in the 2024 Summit League end of season awards voted on by the head coaches, the conference office announced on Friday before both DU and Kansas City trained at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium ahead of Saturday's final (2 p.m. MT/BUY TICKETS).
Denver, who won its 10th Summit League regular season title this season, had three of the five major award winners. Sam Bassett was named the Summit League Midfielder of the Year, Ronan Wynne was named the Summit League Defensive Player of the Year and Isaac Nehme was named the Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year on Friday.
The Pio trio was joined on the first team by Oje Ofunrein, Ben Smith and Ian Smith for a league-high six on the All-Summit League First Team. Bryce Willoughby and Trevor Wright were named to the All-Summit League Second Team.
Bassett was named the Summit League Midfielder of the Year for the second consecutive season, and earned All-Summit League honors for the third time in his career, including his second first-team pick.
Coming off a missed 2023 season due to injury, Wynne took the Summit League Defensive Player of the Year honor for the second time in three years (2022) and earned his fourth Summit League honor overall, including his second first-team selection.
Nehme earned a major award for the third-straight year after being named the Summit League Newcomer of the Year after his freshman campaign in 2022 and the Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year in 2023 and now 2024. Nehme also earned his third all-league award, including his second first-team selection.
Ofunrein earned his first Summit League postseason award in 2024, scoring eight goals this season, including five in league play.
Ben Smith, who was also coming off a major injury in 2023, earned his second All-Summit League First Team honor of his career. Ian Smith is a three-time All-Summit League honoree, including now a two-time first-team selection.
Wright and Willoughby both earned their second All-Summit League honor on Friday.
