DENVER – University of Denver women's tennis player
Andrea Burguete Beltran is set for the 2024 NCAA Division I Singles Championship, hosted by Baylor University, beginning on Tuesday, November 19.
Burguete Beltran will begin the tournament with the round of 64 against No. 31-ranked Oyinlomo Quadre from Florida International. The match is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. CT/12:30 p.m. MT start.
The DU senior earned her spot in the NCAA field by advancing to the singles final at the 2024 ITA Mountain Regional Championships on October 22. She was also one win away from appearing in the doubles draw after also playing in the title match at ITA Regionals with partner
Marley Lambert.
This will be Burguete Beltran's first career appearance at the NCAA individual championships. She is the seventh Pioneer to qualify for the NCAA women's singles tournament and the first since
Taylor Melville in 2022-23. Including Burguete Beltran, a total of 11 Denver women's players have advanced to the NCAA individual tournament in either singles or doubles.
Burguete Beltran is one of three singles players from Denver appearing at this week's NCAA tournament. She joins Denver men's players
Raffaello Papajcik and
Daniel Sancho Arbizu, who also qualified and will begin play on Tuesday. This is only the third year that Denver has had at least one men's and one women's player in action in the same NCAA individuals tournament and the first since 2021 when
Anna Riedmiller and
James Davis represented DU in singles.
This is the first of a two-year pilot program from the NCAA to hold the national singles and doubles tournaments at the end of the fall season as opposed to in May at the end of the winter/spring dual season. The NCAA singles and doubles titles for the 2024-25 season will be awarded on Sunday, November 24.
