Matt Davis is in his senior season with the Denver Pioneers hockey team and has been the squad's starting goaltender in each of the last two campaigns.
Â
He is one of four seniors on this year's team that has won two NCAA Championships, as Davis was a backup to starter Magnus Chrona in 2022 and then backstopped the Pioneers to their NCAA-record 10th national title this past April.
Â
The Calgary, Alberta, native registered a 0.63 goals-against average, .979 save percentage and one shutout in 283:32 of playing time in the four games at the 2024 NCAA Tournament and was named both the Northeast Regional and Frozen Four Most Outstanding Player. Davis stopped 69-of-70 shots faced in the two-game Frozen Four and posted a 26-save shutout in the NCAA Championship Game on April 13, 2024 against Boston College—becoming the eighth goaltender and the third at DU to register a clean sheet in the title contest.
Â
He started each of the final 26 games to finish the 2023-24 campaign and started 33 straight outings from Jan. 5-Nov. 1, 2024. He recorded a 20-game winning streak from March 9-Nov. 14 and posted three career-best shutout streaks in that time, including a personal-record 154:45 from Oct. 25-Nov. 8 of this season.
Â
Davis joined the Pioneers after spending the 2020-21 campaign with the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League. He also played junior hockey in his home province of Alberta with the Spruce Grove Saints (AJHL) from 2018-2020.
Â
Academically, Davis has been named a national All-American Scholar, an NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete and to the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team in each of his three seasons at Denver
