Pioneers Head to Montana For RMISA Championships

Denver skiing begins postseason competition
BOZEMAN, Mont. – The University of Denver ski team begins the postseason this weekend in Montana at the 2024 Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Championships, hosted by Montana State University. The RMISA Championships also doubles as the NCAA West Regional.
The alpine events take place at Big Sky Resort while the Nordic races will be held at Crosscut Mountain Sports Center.
Alpine begins the competition with two days of giant slalom racing. The first day on Thursday is a non-meet event and is an extra qualifier race for the athletes ahead of the NCAA Championships in two weeks' time. The RMISA Championships begin with the second GS race on Friday at Big Sky before slalom on Saturday.
Saturday features both alpine and Nordic action, as the cross country events get underway with the 7.5-kilometer freestyle interval start.
The conference championships wrap up on Sunday morning with the Nordic 20K classical mass start at Crosscut. Sunday's Nordic classic and Saturday's alpine slalom will serve as the final collegiate race of the season for many of the athletes as a maximum of three men and three women from each discipline are eligible to compete at the NCAA Championships.
Denver has finished second in all four meets this season, including placing just 11 points behind winner Colorado at its own DU Invitational on Feb. 5-10 at Loveland Ski Arena and in Minturn, Colorado, in what was one of the tightest competitions in recent years.
The Pioneers last raced at Crosscut Mountain Sports Center at last year's Montana State Invitational, while they haven't competed on the RMISA circuit at Big Sky Resort since the 2018 MSU Invite.
The 2024 NCAA Championships is slated for March 6-9 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
