No. 9 DU Gymnastics Set for Top-10 Showdown at No. 10 Michigan

Denver closes regular season with second of three-straight road meets to close March

WHO: No. 9 Denver at No. 10 Michigan
WHAT: DU's regular-season finale
WHERE: Crisler Center (Ann Arbor, Michigan)
WHEN: Friday, March 15, 7 p.m. ET/5 p.m. MT

LAST TIME OUT:
Denver tallied the third-highest road score in program history (197.625) in its quad-meet win No. 13 Missouri on March 10. DU began the meet by tying the school's second-highest away bars score (49.550) and posted scores of at least 49.350 on all four events. Senior Jessica Hutchinson had the highest-scoring routine for any team with her near-perfect 9.975 on beam, giving her one of four total event wins on the day.

EYE ON THE RANKINGS:
Denver moved up two places in the Road to Nationals rankings, returning to the top 10 at No. 9 with a program-record NQS of 197.580. DU's bars squad is again ranked No. 5 on the event, and the team moved into the top 10 on vault as well. Denver is ranked in the top 15 on all four events.

Hutchinson is ranked in the all-around and on all four events for the fourth time this year and the first in NQS rankings. She improved to No. 6 in the all-around, her career-best NQS ranking, and jumped more than 20 spots into a tie for No. 18 on vault.

Freshman Madison Ulrich is again ranked in the top 25 in the all-around while senior Rylie Mundell returned to the bars rankings, her ninth time in 10 weeks to be ranked in the top 25 on the event this year.

QUICK HITS:
  • Hutchinson was named the Big 12 Gymnast of the Week for the second-consecutive week and the fourth time this year after again tying the 10th-highest all-around score in program history (39.725) while also setting a season high with her near-perfect 9.975 on beam at the Missouri quad meet on March 10.
    • With her four wins at Missouri, Hutchinson is now tied for seventh for the most career titles in DU history (56). Seven more titles will move her into the top five.
    • She also owns 28 titles this year alone, tied for the eighth-most single-season titles in program history. The all-time record is 36 by Nina McGee in 2016.
  • For the third time this year, Denver will compete twice in five days, opening the week with the meet at Missouri on Sunday and ending it with Friday's meet at Michigan.
    • DU also had a five-day turnaround between its January 21 home quad meet and its January 26 meet at Oklahoma, and then between its two road meets at West Virginia on February 18 and at BYU on February 23.
  • Friday is the second of three-straight road meets for DU – all against at least one Power-5 opponent – to close NQS-eligible competition.
    • Michigan is Denver's 11th Power-5 opponent in 2024. In total, DU will have seen eight of those 11 teams on the road by the end of the season.
SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES:
Michigan hosted Georgia in its penultimate meet of the 2024 regular season, scoring a 197.075 win over UGA on March 8. Sierra Brooks and Gabby Wilson are both nationally-ranked in the all-around with Brooks also appearing in all four event rankings while Wilson joins her in the top five on floor. Carly Bauman is also in the top 20 on bars.

Denver and Michigan met three times in 2023, most recently in a 197.875-197.750 win for DU at the NCAA Regional Final in Denver. The teams met in Ann Arbor on January 13 as well where the Wolverines claimed a 198.125-197.200 win.
