DENVER – The University of Denver hockey team ranks No. 4 in the country in both the USCHO.com and USA Hockey/The Rink Live polls after the latest national rankings were released on Monday.
The Pioneers had 11 different goal scorers find the back of the net last weekend as the DU outscored then-No. 15 St. Cloud State Huskies 13-4 in the two games. DU won 6-2 on Friday and 7-2 on Saturday to earn its first weekend sweep at St. Cloud since Dec. 7-8, 2007.
Denver was previously No. 4 in the USA Hockey/the Rink Live polls and No. 5 on the USCHO.com list.
Boston College remains the unanimous No. 1 team in the country in both national polls, while cross-town foe Boston University is second and North Dakota is No. 3. Denver and UND are technically tied with the same score for third in the Pairwise Rankings, which determines the field for the national tournament, but the Fighting Hawks have slight edge in the tiebreaker.
The NCHC has six teams ranked and is tied for the most among all conferences with Hockey East. Joining DU and UND are Colorado College at No. 10/12, Western Michigan at No. 15/14, Omaha at No. 16/17 and St. Cloud State at No. 17/16.
Denver plays Colorado College this weekend to wrap up the regular season. It will be the first time that the teams have faced off while both ranked since Nov. 16-17, 2020 (two DU wins) and the first top-10 matchup since Dec. 4-5, 2009 (DU went 1-0-1).
UP NEXT: The Pioneers wrap up a three-game road swing at CC on Friday at 8 p.m. MT in a nationally-televised game on CBS Sports Network before the teams face off on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. MT at Magness Arena for senior night.
