No. 11 DU Gymnastics Travels to No. 13 Missouri for Sunday Quad

Denver begins three-meet, Power-5 road trip with top-15 showdown at Mizzou

WHO: No. 11 Denver at No. 13 Missouri, New Hampshire, SE Missouri State
WHAT: DU's first of three-straight road meets
WHERE: Hearnes Center (Columbia, Missouri)
WHEN: Sunday, March 10, 1 p.m. CT/12 p.m. MT

LAST TIME OUT:
Denver posted a new season high and its second 198+ score of the year (198.025) to top San Jose State, Lindenwood and Air Force in the team's final home meet of the season. DU improved its event scores from rotation to rotation, finishing with season-high beam (49.550) and floor scores (49.675). DU won at least a share of all five individual titles and only had one score below 9.800 the entire meet.

EYE ON THE RANKINGS:
Denver maintained its No. 11 ranking after boosting its National Qualifying Score by more than a tenth and a half to 197.435, just .010 shy of the program's all-time record of 197.445 from 2019. The team is also once again ranked inside the top 15 on all four events, led by a No. 5 ranking on bars.

Senior Jessica Hutchinson is again ranked in the top 10 in the all-around and adds three more event rankings while freshman Madison Ulrich joins her in the all-around and bars rankings.

QUICK HITS:
  • Denver won at least a share of all three Big 12 Conference awards this week, led by Hutchinson's third Gymnast of the Week award of the years following her 39.725 performance on March 3 that tied the 10th-highest score in DU history.
    • Hutchinson also moved into sole possession of second-most career 10.0s with her floor score in the March 3 meet, now owning four total in her career. She is just one shy of the all-time record of five set by Lynnzee Brown.
    • Junior Momoko Iwai captured Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week for the second time in her career after posting new personal bests on floor (9.950) and beam (9.975) with her beam mark becoming the program record for highest leadoff score on any event.
    • Freshman Madison Ulrich was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for the fifth time after debuting her upgraded double layout on floor while tying her career high of 39.725 on the event and adding top-three finishes in the all-around and on bars.
  • For the third time this year, Denver will compete twice in five days, beginning with Sunday's meet and ending with its trip to Michigan on Friday, March 15.
    • DU also had five-day turnaround between its January 21 home quad meet and its January 26 meet at Oklahoma, and then between its two road meets at West Virginia on February 18 and at BYU on February 23.
  • Sunday will be the first of three-straight road meets for DU – all against at least one Power-5 opponent – to close the regular season.
    • Missouri is Denver's 10th of 11 Power-5 opponents in 2024. In total, DU will have seen eight of those 11 teams on the road by the end of the season.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS:
Missouri is coming off a season-best 197.525 at home against Arkansas on March 3 and is ranked No. 13 in the country. The Tigers are nationally-ranked on all four events, led by a No. 8 ranking on floor and a tie for No. 10 on vault. Sienna Schreiber is the team's top all-arounder and is currently tied for No. 4 nationally on beam. Teammate Jocelyn Moore is tied for No. 6 in the nation on floor, and Mara Titarsolej is tied for No. 17 on bars.

DU is 10-8 all-time against Missouri, winning 196.350-196.200 in their most recent meeting on January 26, 2019, at the Metroplex Challenge. This will be DU's first trip to Columbia since January 20, 2012, in a narrow 194.725-194.625 win for Mizzou.
