BALTIMORE – The University of Denver men's lacrosse program placed three student-athletes on the 2024 Inside Lacrosse Media All-America lists, the publication announced on Sunday night during halftime of the Syracuse/Towson NCAA First Round game on ESPNU.
Alec Stathakis was named to the IL Third Team, while
Casey Wilson and
Jimmy Freehill earned honorable mention.
The BIG EAST Specialist of the Year, Stathakis is facing off at 60.6% this season on 218-of-360, picking up over half of the ground balls off his wins (120), and forcing five turnovers. Stathakis has three points in Denver's last seven games, including his first goal of the season and the ninth of his career against Marquette on April 26. The fifth-year faceoff specialist is 13-2 in his match-ups this season.
Freehill, who was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year earlier this month, has started in all 15 games at close defense for the Pioneers, forcing 21 turnovers and picking up 32 ground balls. Freehill has multiple CTs in six games this year, including five of the last seven. The junior defenseman has picked up 19 ground balls in the last five games entering Sunday's national quarterfinal.
Wilson was an All-BIG EAST Second Team pick in 2024, starting all 15 games as one of Denver's two short stick defensive midfielders. The Canadian National Team product has a career-high 12 caused turnovers this season to go with a career-high 30 ground balls. Wilson has multiple ground balls in nine contests this year, including five of the last six. Last time out in the NCAA First Round against Michigan last Saturday, Wilson had two goals and an assist in transition to go with two ground balls and a CT.
