No. 11 Denver Gymnastics Hosts Season’s First Quad Meet on Sunday

LAST TIME OUT:
Denver began the 2025 season with a win over No. 13 Michigan, 195.700-194.975, on January 5. DU gymnasts won at least a share of four of the five individual titles, led by wins for sophomore Madison Ulrich in the all-around and on bars, and graduate student Rylie Mundell on vault and bars. DU's marks on bars (49.450) and floor (49.250) moved into the record books for a season opener with the bars score becoming a program record and the floor score becoming the fourth-highest.
EYE ON THE RANKINGS:
Denver sits at No. 11 in the Road to Nationals rankings following the season opener and adds three top-five event rankings as a team. DU is ranked No. 2 nationally on bars and floor – equaling the program record for highest bars ranking (last achieved in 2024) and DU's highest floor ranking since 2005.
Nine DU gymnasts sit in the top 25 nationally on at least one event as well, led by Ulrich on four events and Mundell on three.
QUICK HITS:
Missouri began its 2025 season with a home quad meet against Ball State, Illinois State and SEMO, topping the first with a 196.700. Amari Celestine led the way with wins in the all-around and on floor, two of the combined eight titles won by Tigers.
Denver holds an 11-8 record against Missouri, winning the last two meetings including a 197.625-197.375 road victory in the 2024 regular-season finale. Missouri has not competed in Denver since March 3, 2012, in a narrow 194.100-194.025 win for DU.

SCOUTING THE GYMDOGS:
Sunday will mark Georgia's 2025 season debut after hosting its annual preview meet on January 4. UGA is led by first-year co-head coach Cécile Canqueteau-Landi, who most recently coached Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles, among others, at the elite level. She is joined by co-head coach Ryan Roberts, who was the team's assistant coach for the last two years.
DU has won the last four meetings between Denver and Georgia to move to 4-15 all-time against the GymDogs. The teams last met at the 2021 NCAA Regional Second Round at UGA with Denver topping Georgia by a quarter tenth, 196.775-196.750. DU also won the last time Georgia made the trip to Denver on January 19, 2015 (194.850-194.300).

SCOUTING THE SHARKS:
LIU did not competed during the opening week of the season but will make its 2025 debut at Air Force on Friday, January 10, before competing in Denver on Sunday.
This will be the first-ever meeting between Denver and LIU. Long Island is one of only two active Division I teams that DU has never competed against (also: Clemson).
WHAT'S NEXT:
Denver heads on the road for the first time in 2025, traveling to Arkansas for a tri-meet with Texas Woman's on Monday, January 20, before returning home to host its Big 12 Conference opener against West Virginia on Sunday, January 26.

- Two of the first three weekly Big 12 Conference awards for 2025 went to DU gymnasts with junior Cecilia Cooley earning Gymnast of the Week honors and senior Mia Hebinck being named the Event Specialist of the Week.
- Cooley returned to competition after missing the 2024 season with an injury, including making her collegiate debuts on beam and floor, winning the title on the latter.
- Hebinck also won a title, tying atop the bars podium for the fourth time in her career with one of only four 9.9+ scores given to either team in the season opener.
- Sophomore Maddison Reidenbach debuted her upgraded Yurchenko 1.5 on January 5 – and stuck it – becoming the fourth active DU gymnast to compete a 10.0 start value on the event.
- Reidenbach set a career high with her vault, joining junior Mila Brusch, who also tied her personal best on floor with a 9.850.
- Denver set a program record for highest attendance in a home opener with 5,071 on January 5, continuing the nationwide trend of increased crowds at college gymnastics meets.
