Jack Tortolani named captain for second-consecutive year, and is joined this season by Jimmy Freehill, Casey Wilson and Joshua Carlson

DENVER – William G. Tierney Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Matt Brown has named four captains to lead the 2025 University of Denver men's lacrosse program.

Redshirt senior Jack Tortolani will serve as a captain for the second-consecutive year, and is joined in 2025 by senior close defenseman Jimmy Freehill, senior SSDM Casey Wilson and redshirt senior Joshua Carlson.

Tortolani played and started all 17 games on Denver's first midfield a year ago, totaling 15 points on seven goals and eight helpers.

Carlson also spent the 2024 season on Denver's top offensive midfield unit, scoring 18 times to go with nine assists for 27 points.

A 2024 USILA Third Team All-American, Freehill often drew the opponent's top attackmen a year ago while picking up 37 ground balls and forcing 22 turnovers.

An Honorable Mention All-American a year ago, Wilson had six points (4-2) in transition while picking up 35 grounders and forcing 14 turnovers.

Heading into its second year under Brown, the Pioneers are coming off their first Championship Weekend appearance since 2017, part of a 13-4 season for Denver.

The Pioneers return four of their top six point getters from a year ago, a quartet led by sophomore Cody Malawsky, who finished his freshman campaign with 32 points on 22 goals and 10 assists. Noah Manning also had 22 goals and nine helpers in 2024, Mic Kelly added 20 goals and eight assists for the Denver offense.

Denver's defensive side of the ball returns 2024 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year Jimmy Freehill and Canadian National Team SSDM and fellow All-American Casey Wilson to the lineup, along with 2024 BIG EAST Goalie of the Year Malcolm Kleban in-between the pipes.
