LAS VEGAS – The University of Denver men's tennis team collected five wins in six matches – including four of four in singles – on the second day of play at the 2025 ITA Mountain Regional Championships, hosted by UNLV, on Thursday.
All four of Denver's players in the field won their opening singles matches as main-draw play got underway while the doubles duo of senior
Ryoma Mishiro and sophomore
Samuel Rovai won their second doubles match together in as many days.
The day started with doubles, and both DU matches ended in 8-5 scorelines with Mishiro/Rovai advancing to the round of 16.
In singles, three Pioneers won in straight sets to move into the second round, led by No. 3 seed
Raffaello Papajcik, who lost just five games. Mishiro was only one off his pace with a 6-4 6-2 win in his round of 64 match.
No. 10-seeded Rovai claimed a contentious first-set tiebreak and added a win in the second to also win in two sets. Sophomore
Theo Coats battled back from a set down to join his three teammates in the round of 32.
The 2025 ITA Mountain Regional Championships continues on Friday with the doubles round of 16 and the singles rounds of 32 and 16, beginning at 9 a.m. PT/10 a.m. MT.
