DENVER – The University of Denver women's tennis team combined for five wins with action in two tournaments once again on Saturday.
In San Diego at the ITA Conference Masters Championships, seniors
Marley Lambert and
Louise Wikander were looking for a spot in the consolation doubles final against another team from the state of Colorado in CU's Alexin/van der Werff.
After dropping the opening set, Lambert/Wikander responded with a dominant second set. They broke in the set's opening game and never looked back, leading all the way through to a 6-1 win to force a third-set match tiebreak. The breaker proved to be competitive and tight all the way through with both teams holding a match point but seeing the Buffs come out on top, 11-9.
At Baylor's H-E-B Invitational, two Pioneers booked spots in their respective singles finals while two more will play in third-place matches. In the all-Denver semifinal of the Yellow Draw, redshirt freshman
Remy Nguyen defeated classmate
Natali Jaiani in two sets, sending Nguyen to the draw's final and Jaiani to the third-place match.
Freshman
Ruby Hansen started her semifinal in the Pink Draw with a bagel and sealed the win in the second set to move onto that draw's final as well. Senior
Claudia Martinez de Velasco played in the Orange Draw semifinal, falling in straight sets but earning her place in the third-place match on Sunday.
Fellow senior
Zoe Adkins and sophomore
Natálie Cinková both gathered wins in consolation matches, and each did so with a 10-7 match tiebreak victory. Cinková teamed with Martinez de Velasco for another win on the day, doing so in doubles to start the morning.
The 2025 ITA Conference Masters Championships continues on Saturday with the singles and doubles semifinals, plus consolation matches. The H-E-B Invitational at Baylor will conclude on Sunday with the singles and doubles finals, beginning at 9 a.m. CT/8 a.m. MT.
